FITC Kick Off

I am excited to announce that I will be performing April 17th, at the FITC Kick Off party.  I will perform 3 sets throughout the night, accompanying the musical performances of HADI. I am in the process of building the show, but I hope to include both my original rendered video works, and a number of generative compositions.

tcpipbridge3

Over the past few months, I have needed a few extras from some of my interactive media projects.
Since most of my work is done within the Isadora media control software, I started looking for ways to add features to the system in an easy and extensible fashion.
Python being a fast and powerful language; as well as, a language I enjoy working in seemed to be a natural option for creating features.. but how to integrate it with Isadora.

javascript json stringify unstringify

Just a really quick one. We are going to look at how you can save hours patching in Isadora, by designing data structures for your User Actors.
When working in Isadora it is generally best to wrap all functional units into User Actors. This allows great design flexibility and consistency.
However, once you start to duplicate these elements and feed the data from them back and forth to the other functional elements (user actors), you can end up with a mesh of patch cords that fan out all over your screen.
Not only making it harder to view/read, but also taking a lot of time to link each and every output to X number of inputs.

js closure izzyactors

What this blog post shows you is how to create a Initialization within a Javascript actor in Isadora. By re-defining the Main function within the Main function. I also include a nice little method of adding simple debugging within your JS code inside Isadora.

** Although this method offers a clean way of defining variables outside the main() function. It is often easiest to define variables in the outer most scope to treat them as Global. EG: "myGlobal = 6;" as the very first line of code (outside any functions) would set a global called myGlobal equal to 6.

DX izzy resources

Since the introduction of Isadora V2, there has been a demand for new learning resources. The Troikatronix staff (including myself) have worked hard on creating new overviews/tutorials to get users up and running with the powerful new features as quickly as possible. Here I am compiling a list of resources that I use.. official and other.  More may be available in the official Knowledge Base.

Three simple things

print2web icon

Web design has evolved greatly since I first started working the web in the mid 90's.

At that time we were just learning how top splice images and construct scalable borders in tables.
A large part of the paying work was moving print media to the web, however; it was often just a matter of reproducing it without any specific thought for redesign.
